When it's time to hit the streets in the Huntsville, Florence, and Cullman, AL, areas, will you be driving the BMW 5 Series or Mercedes-Benz E-Class? At Century BMW, we know that both luxury sedans are great picks for Alabama drivers like you. Still, you want to make sure that you're choosing the right one for your unique lifestyle. So, which one will it be?

To help you decide, we compared the BMW 5 Series vs. Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Check out our comparison below!

BMW 5 Series vs Mercedes-Benz E-Class Powertrain Options

The key to choosing the right luxury sedan is having the engine options available to give you the power and mileage that you want from your car. That's why we love that both the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class give you so many ways to configure your powertrain:

As you can see, they both come standard with a 2.0L turbocharged I-4 engine that generates more than 245 horsepower. That's what you get right out of the gate, too! If you want more power, you can upgrade to the available 3.0L turbocharged V6 in either sedan that produces more than 330 horsepower.

Still need more? That's great! Both the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class offer performance lines that have even more to offer. The BMW M Series and the Mercedes-Benz AMG trim levels both pack your vehicle full of more than 500 horsepower. Certain powertrains can even generate more than 600 horsepower.

Now, let's dial it back a bit. If your main need is fuel efficiency, then you may find yourself preferring the BMW. The BMW 5 Series has an available hybrid powertrain called the 530e xDrive. This hybrid sports a 2.0L BMW TwinPower Turbo I-4 engine paired with an electric motor that delivers 288 net system horsepower while also giving you an extra MPG boost.

Unfortunately, the Mercedes-Benz doesn't make a hybrid option available, so it may have you stopping to fuel up more often.

Luxurious Comfort of the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Despite what's under the hood, both the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class deliver with luxurious comfort inside the cabin. Both sedans have features like:

  • Available premium leather seating materials
  • Classic wood accents and inlays
  • Available heated seats
  • Available massaging seats

They also both have a power-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support and a memory feature. The memory feature is especially useful because it remembers your preferred seating position. Then, when you pick your vehicle up from the shop or get it back after letting someone borrow it, you'll be able to return to your seat setting simply by pressing a button.

The BMW 5 Series may give you more opportunities to find that perfect seating position, however, thanks to its available Multi-contour front seats. This includes a standard 16-way power seat, 4-way lumbar support, and power adjustment functions for shoulder support and thigh support.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class doesn't offer such versatility in how you adjust your seat, so it likely won't provide the same optimal seating position that you can get from the BMW.
